lyrics

Me and my love, we went on a stroll
She dressed in the finest of satin
But walking in high heels soon took its toll
On the steep hills of Manhattan

We soon sat down in a charming café
And while we were sittin' and chattin'
A hiker strode by in his boots and beret
To take on the hills of Manhattan

I ordered a chai and a small roasted quail
My love got potatoes au gratin
To give us the energy needed to scale
The mountainous hills of Manhattan

We had quite a view from our perch in the sky
As far as the Island of Staten
A couple brave bicyclists went rolling by
Down those old rolling hills of Manhattan

We started back homeward a little annoyed
And breathlessly wished we could flatten
The peaks and the valleys, so we could avoid
The arduous hills of Manhattan

Back at our doorstep, we kicked off our shoes
But not before letting the cat in
And said in agreement, in future we'd choose
Not to hike up the hills of Manhattan
